Cartier clock, heart-shape diamond ring deliver glittering results at Doyle

NEW YORK – Doyle enjoyed marked success in back-to-back auctions of Important Jewelry on Tuesday, April 12 and Fine Jewelry & Luxury Handbags on Wednesday, April 13.

Doyle’s Important Jewelry auction, held April 12, showcased luxurious jewelry spanning the Victorian, Edwardian, Art Nouveau, Art Deco and Modern eras, with pieces by the world’s most prestigious makers, including Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, Schlumberger Monture and Tiffany & Co. Featured was a selection of Fancy Blue diamonds, dazzling rings, necklaces, brooches and bracelets set with diamonds, colored stones, jade and natural pearls.

With competitive international bidding, the sale totaled an exceptional $3,897,495, surpassing the pre-sale estimate of $2,578,800-$3,738,400, with 95% lots sold.

The top lot of the April 12 sale was an exquisite circa-1925 Art Deco desk clock by Cartier that soared past its estimate of $60,000-$80,000 to realize a staggering $359,100. The clock was from the estate of Kathryn Graham.

Doyle’s Fine Jewelry & Luxury Handbags sale, conducted on April 13, featured a wide array of stylish creations by such well-respected makers as Chanel, Angela Cummings and Tiffany & Co, as well as fine watches by Patek Philippe, Bulgari and Rolex. From the estate of a Park Avenue lady came a selection of luxury handbags by Chanel, Hermes and Dolce & Gabbana.

With competitive bidding, the sale topped one million with an exceptional $1,006,394 sold, surpassing the pre-sale estimate of $527,100-$765,100, with 94% of lots sold and 100% sold by value.

The top lot of the April 13 sale was a heart-shaped diamond ring weighing 5.02 carats and set in 14K gold, which sold for $37,800. Other highlights included a J.E. Caldwell platinum, alexandrite and diamond ring that achieved $28,350.
