DALLAS – Dallas Auction Gallery anticipated and was rewarded with excellent prices at their Spring Fine Art sale on April 30. One hundred and nineteen lots of high-quality paintings, lithographs, graphic works, photography and sculpture – representing modern, contemporary, post-impressionist and Southwest artists – resulted in over $2.8 million in sales and a 76 percent sell-through rate.

Contemporary and modern works from the estate of Mary Jo Vaughn Rauscher and a collection assembled by the late Mr. and Mrs. I.C. Deal of Dallas were standouts.
Two sculptures were the top lots of the evening: lot 78, a bronze by Dame Barbara Hepworth titled, Summer Dance, realizing a price of $926,500 against an estimate of $500,000-$700,000; and lot 81, a lead sculpture by Jacques Lipchitz titled The Meeting, which sold for $662,500 with an estimate of $600,000-$800,000. The sculptures were two of many pieces from the estate of Mary Jo Vaughn Rauscher, a prominent Dallas civic leader.
Modern British and European artists brought strong prices. Two works by British artist Victor Pasmore sold over estimate. Lot 79, Linear Motif, a relief painting with gravure and oil on plastic and panel, 1967, sold for $158,500. Lot 80, Linear Motif, a gravure and oil on plastic and panel, 1966-1967 sold for $146,500. Lot 77, Stanley William Hayter’s Nereides, oil and acrylic on canvas, sold for $18,750. Three works by Spanish artist Joan Miro sold for $43,250.
American artists were also represented with outstanding prices realized. For example, lot 13, Loren Mozley, View of Queretaro, oil on canvas, sold for $53,125. Lot 76, Dimitri Hadzi, Thebes III, a bronze sculpture, sold for $46,875. A collection of graphic works by Sam Francis including four monotypes sold for $65,000.
