LAKE WORTH, Fla. – The Pre-Holiday Sale for Market Auctions Inc. held Dec. 5 and concluded with a number of significant sales. Market Auctions continues to impress with substantial attendance and numerous registered bidders online, on the phones and on the sales floor at the Palm Beach Art, Antique & Design Showroom. Absentee and Internet live bidding was available through LiveAuctioneers.

Among the most noteworthy sales of the night was Lot 35, an acrylic on canvas painting titled Landscape by artist dated 1972. Japanese artist Genichiro Inokuma is well-known as a figurative artist specializing in abstract paintings and large-scale murals dating back to the early 1900s.

The Inakuma painting sold for an achieved price of $8,200 which is well above the estimated going value at $5,000-$6,000 contributing to the overall success of the December sale. In addition to the high sale price, this piece is exceptional because the painting has never been directly owned by a previous art dealer.

“It is very unusual to represent a painting that was acquired from the original gallery,” said Jacob Kodner, managing partner of Market Auctions. “Most works change hands many times throughout history making provenance hard to achieve. This was not the case here.”

Additional noteworthy sales included:

– John Ferron watercolor,1936, estimate: $500-$1,000. Price realized: $1,750.
