MONROVIA, Calif. – Moran’s Jewels & Luxury auction realized strong prices and boasted a high sell-through rate. Absentee and Internet live bidding was available through LiveAuctioneers.

“The auction market for jewelry is strong and getting stronger, with many new customers bidding online than ever before. With all lots and condition reports online, our customers benefited from clear photos and cataloging to inform their bidding,” according to John Moran Auctioneers in a news release.

Diamonds are still a hot commodity at auction, with three of the top-selling lots being colorless diamonds. A gorgeous 3.49-carat round diamond with E color and SI2 clarity was the top lot of the day, selling to a determined phone bidder for $23,750 (above). All prices realized include Moran’s 25% buyer’s premium. A delicious pear-shaped diamond weighing 3.27 carats and graded E color SI1 clarity brought $21,250. A classic pair of diamond stud earrings weighing 1.61 and 1.57 carats started a bidding war and sold for $12,500 (below).

The trend for yellow gold jewelry was as strong as ever at Tuesday’s auction. Two large charm bracelets were one of the most popular items leading into the sale, selling for $7,500.

A gorgeous diamond collet chain necklace set with diamonds soared over its high estimate to bring $7,500. A fun turquoise necklace with all-around design commanded attention at the sale, bringing $2,812.

Name-brand jewels and accessories always make a splash at auction and Tuesday was no exception. A beautifully designed Georg Jensen necklace with stylized grape clusters caused a bidding war when it came to the block, soaring over its $1,200 high estimate to bring $4,062.

A stylish David Yurman gold and diamond necklace will make a great addition to the buyer’s collection and brought $3,125. A selection of Hermès scarves captured attention during the sale, with the top offering a cashmere and silk “Sichuan” scarf, which sold over its high estimate for $562.

Moran’s summer auction season is set to begin with 20th Century Art + Design on June 9 followed by Jewelry: Made Modern on June 10.
