SARASOTA, Fla. – Sarasota Estate Auction had another spectacular sale October 29 and 30. Exceeding more than half a million dollars, multiple lots performed extremely well, including pieces that significantly outperformed their estimates.

The top-performing piece was Red Yellow Blue, an original etching, aquatint and dry point by Richard Diebenkorn. With an estimate of $50,000-$75,000, this piece brought $55,440 and sold to an online bidder on LiveAuctioneers.

Second place among the art lots was an untitled Angel Botello oil on board. There was a lot of interest in this piece prior to the auction, and on the day itself there were multiple phone bidders. Estimated at $10,000-$15,000, this piece sold to an online bidder for a total of $31,500.

Coming in third was a dramatic oil on canvas of a backstage scene at a French theater by John Philip Falter. It started at $6,000 and ultimately realized $22,680.

One work of art that greatly surpassed its expectations was a Cubist still life attributed to Leo Roth. This oil on canvas board, signed L Roth on the reverse, had a modest starting price of $50 and an estimate of $100-$200. Prior to auction day, it had drawn an internet bid of $1,100. When all was said and done, this piece brought $5,355.

A John Whorf watercolor of two figures in a canoe turned heads and raised bidding paddles. With an estimate of $2,000-$3,000, this piece went to an online bidder for a total of $6,615.
