PHILADELPHIA – Freeman’s sold a set of Tiffany Studios church windows sold Nov. 10 for an impressive $705,000, doubling its presale estimate. Absentee and Internet live bidding was available through LiveAuctioneers.

The set of seven stained-glass windows, titled Angels Representing Seven Churches, were removed from the New Jerusalem Church in Cincinnati, Ohio, before it was razed in 1964. The windows were stored for the next four decades before they were rediscovered.

Experts Arthur Femenella and Kathy Jordan began restoration on the windows in the early 2000s. During the project, they discovered the Tiffany Studios signature on the windows. After more than 100 years, including 40 hidden from public view, the name of the windows’ important maker was finally rediscovered.

After competitive online and phone bidding the windows were sold to a philanthropic Philadelphian who plans to place them with a museum.

The success of this niche sale is testament to Freeman’s ability to market one-off, unusual and high-quality objects and collections,” said Tim Andreadis, head of sale.
