Market Auctions sells TV anchor’s painting for $11,000

PALM BEACH, Fla. – Market Auctions Inc. conducted their annual Holiday Sale on Dec. 2, ending the year on a high note. Over 300 different lots consisted of a wide variety of works included American art, bronzes, French furniture, Asian antiques, glass, contemporary art, estate jewelry and European silver. Absentee and Internet live bidding was available through LiveAuctioneers.
Among the most noteworthy sales was Lot #1. Market Auctions Inc. teamed up with WPTV anchor and artist Ashleigh Walters to auction a one-of-a-kind painting to benefit local families through the WPTV Food for Families drive. The 36-inch-square acrylic painting (above) depicting grocery shelves of orange juice sold with a winning bid of $11,000. Market Auctions Inc. waived fees and matched the highest bid with a donation of $1,500. The total amount, $12,500, will be donated to WPTV Food for Families.

WPTV viewers Jim and Deb Grimwade from Palm Beach County won the painting. They said how grateful for the efforts being made to feed their neighbors and are happy to help the community.

Additional standout sales included:
– Lot 29, Alexander Calder (American, 1898-1976) lithograph numbered 3/100. Estimated at $1,000-$2,000, the work sold for $4,000.
– Lot 30, Alexander Calder lithograph numbered 3/100. Estimated at $1,000-$2,000, sold for
$2,375.
– Lot 57, 18K two-tone and fancy yellow diamond drop earrings. Estimated at $8,000-$12,000, sold for $13,750.
– Lot 279, Pablo Picasso (Spanish, 1881-1973) framed black and white lithograph. Estimated at $300-$500, sold for $3,250.
