Moran Auctioneers finds eager bidders for fine jewelry
MONROVIA, Calif. – John Moran Auctioneer’s Jewels, Luxury & Coins auction on Sept. 15 was a resounding success, boasting a high sell-through rate and top prices throughout the day. Collectors in the market for vintage gems and glittering diamonds paid the top prices of the day while a strong collection of coins and vintage clothing rounded out the sale. Absentee and Internet live bidding was available through LiveAuctioneers.
Fabulous diamond jewels were the most sought-after pieces of the day. An incredible Art Deco Tiffany & Co. diamond and emerald bracelet was the top lot of the day, opening to a robust bidding war between two phone bidders with one winning the jewel for $40,625 (above) All prices realized include Moran’s 25% buyer’s premium.
A gorgeous 18K yellow gold necklace set with diamonds captured attention during the sale, realizing $6,250. A scintillating round brilliant-cut diamond ring weighing 3.03 carats caused a bidding war, selling to a determined bidder for $28,125. A square step-cut diamond weighing 4.94 carats realized $31,250 (below).
Vintage clothes and accessories shone through with ferocious bidding online. A fabulous “Passiflores” silk blouse from Hermès was one of Moran’s favorite pieces in the sale, bringing $375 .
A timeless linen shirt dress from Hermès was one of the most popular lots in the section, selling to a lucky online bidder for $500.
The top lot of the luxury section belonged to a stunning Sybil Connolly Irish linen evening gown. The sweet pink gown made from yards of premium Irish linen prompted spirited bidding, selling well over its high estimate for $1,000.
A Gucci GG Horsebit tote bag saw strong bidding, selling for $437.50 online.
Coins from around the world attracted strong interest online. Four 1-ounce gold South African Krugerrands brought $8,750. A South African 10 Tolas bar sold for $7,500 online.
A wonderful 1881-S US Double Eagle gold coin was one of the most highly anticipated lots of the day, selling to an online bidder for $2,125.
A Mexican 50 Pesos coin with its beautiful design realized $2,812.50.
