WINDSOR, Conn. – Nadeau’s Auction Gallery held its Annual Major Fall Americana and Chinese Auction on October 22 and saw great success. The 496-lot auction had a 90% sell through rate and totaled more than $550,000.

Gorgeous furnishings performed exceptionally well. An Aaron Willard Chippendale mahogany tall clock, estimated at $3,000-$5,000, achieved an impressive $18,000. The 94in-tall timepiece was detailed with a fretwork top and brass finials, an arched top door, brass stop fluted quarter columns, an inlaid base and ogee feet. Its dial was marked Aaron Willard, Boston, and it retained traces of its paper label inside its door.

Another stunner from the category was a Queen Anne walnut highboy that made $10,800. This two part example was made in Salem, Massachusetts in the mid-1700s. The upper section had a bonnet top and three turned finials over a fan carved center drawer flanked by two short drawers over four drawers. The lower section featured one long drawer over three short drawers, a fan carved center drawer, and carved skirt and cabriole legs on pad feet.

Asian decorative arts were also well-represented in the October 22 auction. Overperforming to a jaw-dropping extent was a bronze and gilt bronze Buddha. Estimated at $300-$500, it brought $7,500. This 19th-century or earlier seated figure came from a fine Irvington, New York collection.
