BOSTON – An Olympic gold medal awarded to Cuban shooter Leuris Pupo during the London 2012 Summer Olympics sold for $73,205, according RR Auction. View the fully illustrated catalog on LiveAuctioneers.

Pupo’s tenacity and perseverance finally paid off after four consecutive appearances in the Summer Games. After 12 years of Olympic frustration, Pupo’s aim was true at London’s Royal Artillery Barracks, securing the gold medal.

“Any winner’s medals from more recent Olympic Games are extremely scarce and sought-after, with this prodigious London Games prize serving as a truly magnificent example of Olympic grit and triumph,” said Bobby Livingston, executive vice president at RR Auction. The medal was bought by a major Olympic medal collector in the U.S.
