BOSTON — RR Auction‘s inaugural PSA Encapsulated Auction, which took place on September 22, realized a total of $823,819. The sale brought nearly 700 plastic-encased items to the auction block, ranging from straightforward signatures to iconic photographs to content-rich letters and documents. Every item in the sale was encapsulated by PSA, the largest third-party authentication company in the world.

The top-selling lots included a Time magazine cover from 1982, neatly signed by Steve Jobs in the lower left in black ink and in lower case. The cover story, Striking It Rich, portrays “Steven Jobs of Apple Computer” as one of “America’s Risk Takers.” A superior signed piece rooted in the beginnings of Steve Jobs’s much-publicized success, it achieved $35,255.

Additional highlights from the sale include another Steve Jobs item, a signed quote, “Go change the world!,” which earned $25,599.

Another winner was a Winston Churchill-signed menu from his historic 1942 transatlantic flight — the first by a world leader, after soliciting American support during World War II. It went for $24,660.

Also, a Bruce Lee-signed and inscribed photograph, picturing him as Kato in The Green Hornet, his first TV role, sold for $19,321.
