Jane Dickson, ‘Tilt-O-Whirl,’ $53,550
Jane Dickson, ‘Tilt-O-Whirl,’ $53,550

Following in the tradition of Edward Hopper and George Tooker, Jane Dickson thoughtfully documents the energy and motion of New York City. As a part of Colab Projects throughout the late 1970s and early 1980s, Dickson was key to groundbreaking exhibitions such as the Times Square Show in 1980. With the painting Tilt-O-Whirl, Dickson created a fun yet mysterious scene against an inky nighttime backdrop. The 1986 work soared past its estimate to achieve $53,550 – a world auction record for the artist.

Topping the group was a 1978 study for Night Light that realized $28,350 – a world auction record for a work on paper by the artist.

Auction records were also set for works by Samson Bonson, Patrick Quarm, Tauba Auerbach and Paul Jenkins.
