ALAMEDA, Calif. – Michaan’s Auctions held its monthly Gallery Auction on March 17, which featured many unusual lots, such as a pair of Etruscan Revival bronze floor lamps attributed to Caldwell and a watercolor by Paul De Longpre, as well as several gold jewelry lots and a variety of fine Asian ceramics.
The auction began with the aforementioned Etruscan Revival lamps, which realized $7,995. Decorative arts choices included prizes such as a Thomas Hennell sterling silver tea caddy, made in London in 1782, which brought $2,214.
Sought-after fine art included an 1892 watercolor on paper by Paul de Longpre (American and French, 1855-1911), titled Matillija Poppies and Bees, which sold for $9,225, as well as a 1954 Bruce Conner (American, 1933-2008), mixed media on wood board, titled Facade, which earned $7,995.
Jewelry lots that performed well include an 18K gold jewelry suite that sold for $7,995, and also a 24K gold bracelet that realized $3,998. This auction also showcased jewelry from designers such as David Yurman and also brand name wristwatches such as a LeCoultre stainless steel Quartermaster that brought $1,476.
Concluding the March 17 auction was a selection of Asian art in an array of genres including ceramics, carvings, furniture, and silk and painted panels. Leading the ceramics was a Chinese Republic Period famille rose porcelain vase and tea pot that sold for $1,599, and also a set of six Chinese celadon porcelain planters and a vase that went for $1,722.
