20th century glass, ceramics get top billing at Rago sale June 6

LAMBERTVILLE, N.J. – Rago Arts and Auction Center will present an exceptional selection of contemporary ceramics and glass on Saturday, June 6, beginning at 11 a.m. Eastern Time. The 180-lot collection will be followed by 319 lots of mid-century modern furniture and decorative objects.

Exceptional works by many of the 20th century’s foremost glassmakers including Lino Tagliapietra, Dale Chihuly and Frantisek Vizner are the star attractions.
This is “the strongest collection of glass I believe we’ve presented so far,” said Suzanne Perrault, Rago partner and co-director, “with a spectacular 700-piece chandelier by Chihuly, exceptional groupings of Lino vessels, luscious Yoichi Ohira pieces, Stankard paperweights, Vizner glass, and some good representation by the finest contemporary glass makers such as Littleton, Morris, Libensky & Brychtova, and Ben Tre.”
Frantisek Vizner’s red bowl with peak is estimated at $15,000-$20,000.
Lino Tagliapietra’s sculptural vessel measures 16in x 14in x 6in. It is estimated at $15,000-$20,000.
This, 13 1/2-inch glazed stoneware vase by Maija Grotell dates to the 1940s-’50s. It is $9,000-$12,000.
Waylande Gregory’s unique Cubist sculpture is titled Clowns on Unicycles with Poodles. The mid-1930s work is painted terracotta and measures 23 1/2 inches high. Estimate: $25,000-$35,000.
