The hotel, which opened in 1924, was built by the former Caledonian Railway Co. The hotel’s golf course and luxurious surroundings meant that golf and grouse shooting at Gleneagles had, by the 1950s, become a fixed part of high society’s calendar. From the U.S. comes a 1960s travel poster for TWA airlines flights to Las Vegas, where fun and entertainment can be found night or day. The poster by David Klein measures 40.8 by 25.2 inches (est. £375-£750/$480-$960).
The auction will begin with a collection of World War I posters. Leading the charge is a recruitment poster published by the Parliamentary Recruiting Committee featuring a quote by Field Marshal Lord Kitchener (Horatio Herbert Kitchener, 1st Earl Kitchener; 1850-1916) appealing for people to join the British Army. It was printed by Bemrose & Sons Ltd., London & Derby and measures 34.4 by 20.4 inches (est. £180-£360/$230-$461).
