BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. – 99 Fine Art, a fine art house offering original works by well-known contemporary artists, will present a choice collection titled “Diversity I” in an auction Friday, Aug. 11. The 15-lot collection is the work of Dutch artists Jessica Van Haselen and Thomas Bijen. Absentee and Internet live bidding is available through LiveAuctioneers.

A statement from 99 Fine Art describes how the company differs from the standard art gallery: “We offer original, one-of-a-kind artworks that are curated by our team to a museum-level standard from the well-known contemporary artists of our time. We don’t just stop at curating the work of artists we represent; we collaborate with that artist every step of the way. Our creative director and curation team select only the most well respected contemporary artists that create truly unique fine art. Every step of our curation process is exclusive from initial selection, to the design, detail, execution and presentation, ensuring that our customers can own a one-off original.”

Featured in the auction is Bijen’s Cargo Blocks, a Mondrian-style pop art photo composition of cargo containers (above).

Another of his works is Too Much Talk II, a hyper-real portrait of a kiss in silver monochrome. Bathed in an effervescent transparent viscosity, only the contours of the smooth porcelain skin remain visible. The darkened, toneless lips are given a high contrast treatment and take prominence in this hyper-real beauty shot.

Jessica Van Haselen is represented by Higher Power II, a powerful blank and white portrait. The subject’s anthropomorphic hourglass figure raises a question of gender. Intense, feminine hips grow into a manly, contoured torso. The deeply shaded neck is indiscernible, yet powerful as it shoots upward to the light-bathed face. Eyes are fixed on the viewer in a potent, piercing gaze.
