GLEN COVE, N.Y. – Roland Auctions NY will present items from the collection of Jeffrey M. Kaplan in its Saturday, October 8 sale, which starts at 10 am Eastern time. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.

This world-renowned collection – spanning eight collecting categories of artworks and objects created during the course of 1,000 years – features American art as well as Japanese art, Art Deco pieces, works on paper and decorative arts.

Kaplan’s affinity for American art is demonstrated by the exquisite Oscar Florianus Bluemner (American, 1867-1938), watercolor on paper, titled Bulk Head and displayed in a gilt frame. It carries an estimate of $6,000-$9,000.

The October 8 sale lineup also features a rare book with the hefty title Egypt & Nubia: From Drawings Made On The Spot By David Roberts R.A. with Historical Descriptions By William Brockedon. This particular example is Volume 1, an elephant folio edition from 1846, and it has an estimate of $7,000-$9,000.

Asian decorative arts choices include a pair of porcelain plaques depicting mountainous landscapes, one of which has a red chop seal mark. Together they are estimated at $7,000-$10,000. Also on offer is a Chinese embroidered court robe, which is estimated at $4,000-$6,000. The elaborately-decorated garment boasts three five-clawed dragons on a blue ground with ruyi-shaped clouds and flaming pearl auspicious emblems, and having a terrestrial diagram over the striped hem.

The superb selection of antique furniture will include a 19th-century French antique Louis XVI-style oval gueridon, estimated at $2,000-$3,000. It sports a gray marble top with a reticulated gallery and ormulu mounted urn supports atop an x-design stretcher on pan-footed supports.
