NEW YORK – On Wednesday, July 26, starting at 6 pm Eastern time, Jasper52 will conduct a sale of Premium Loose Gemstones. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.
The 441-lot sale boasts a range of beautiful, colorful stones, all ready and waiting to become part of a new piece of jewelry, or perhaps remain unset and take a starring role in a specimen collection.
Among those that count as ludicrously huge are an oval-cut peach morganite that weighs 188.45 carats; a magenta-colored GIA-certified kunzite of 167.17 carats; a second pink kunzite with an emerald cut that weighs 188 carats, on the dot; a fancy cushion-cut topaz, described as having a lion orange color and weighing 90.60 carats; an 113-carat “fancy flower” amethyst from Africa, so called because it is cut in a manner that imbues the stone with a multi-petal flower pattern; and a pear-cut, sherry-colored natural topaz that tests the scales at 617 carats, exactly.
The sale also reveals the range of colors displayed by the sapphire. Of course there are offerings in the stone’s best-known hue, such as a 3.65-carat example described as “neon cornflower blue” and a heart-shape 1.10-carat delight designated as “royal blue.” But there is also a 1.382-carat Vivid Intense yellow sapphire; an orangey-pink 1.02-carat Padparadscha sapphire; a 1.206-carat Vivid pastel pink sapphire; a Vivid violet sapphire weighing 1.327 carats; and a quartet of deep blue star sapphires that together weigh 4.20 carats.
Other standouts that demand attention are an oval-cut 10.90-carat Zambian emerald; a GIA-certified 8.47-carat Mexican fire opal; a pear-shape pink morganite weighing 57.20 carats; several natural Rare Big Imperial topazes, including one that weighs 22.36 carats; an oval-cut Swiss Blue topaz with a carat weight of 39.20; and a perfectly paired set of watermelon tourmaline slices that together weigh 21 carats.
Leading the highlights is a three-carat tourmaline from Afghanistan. It sports an elegant pink hue underscored by subtle hints of orange and is estimated at $500-$600.
Next is a Santa Maria aquamarine with a hefty carat weight of 66.13 and an estimate of $28,000-$34,000. The name is a reference to its color, not its place of origin, and its radiant blue hue is of the sort only seen in books of fairy tales about the sea.
Rounding out the highlights is a Padparadscha sapphire of VS clarity that weighs 7.35 carats. Typically found in Sri Lanka, the name of the Padparadscha sapphire comes from the Sinhalese word for “lotus flower,” which alludes to the stone’s more commonly seen pinkish-orange hue. The highlighted stone, however, has a firm and certain purple color. It has an estimate of $18,000-$22,000.
