MT. CRAWFORD, Va., – Jeffrey S. Evans & Associates will host its 42nd Semi-Annual Premier Americana Auction on June 24-25. The two-day event features consignments from several important collections as well as a large selection of choice objects from various individuals, estates and institutions. The Americana Auction will be preceded by 561 lots of early American glass and lighting on Thursday, June 23, which includes a large selection of objects deaccessioned by the Bennington Museum. Overall, with nearly 1,400 lots of high-quality, fresh-to-the-market material to be sold over the weekend, the auction is sure to generate excitement in the collecting community. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.

Session One, beginning at 9 am Eastern time on Friday, June 24, will feature part three of the American historical transferware collection of Nick Routson of Phoenix, Arizona. One of the finest assemblages ever to appear on the open market, the Routson collection includes a wide variety of forms, many in extremely rare patterns, with most pieces retaining longstanding collection provenances. Other material from various consignors offered in Session One includes a broad selection of American folk pottery, country accessories, baskets, folk art, samplers, quilts and additional English ceramics.

Highlights for Session One include a Staffordshire Medallion Portrait Series large water jug or pitcher bearing bust portraits of Jefferson, Washington, Lafayette and Governor Clinton of New York, flanked by idealized Erie Canal landscapes, estimated at $10,000-$15,000.

Session Two, beginning at 9 am Eastern time on Saturday, June 25, will feature material from several important private collections around the country, as well as objects from the Joseph and June Hennage collection to benefit the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. The day’s offerings will include a selection of Virginia and other Southern material; 18th- and 19th-century formal and country furniture, including painted examples; American folk and fine art; historical and Native American material, including tomahawks and war clubs; 19th-century coin silver; antique and vintage guitars, including C. F. Martin examples; and a large group of cast-iron garden furniture and accessories.

Highlights for the day include a 19th-century American folk art portrait of a cat, estimated at $5,000-$8,000; an 1857 U. S. House of Representatives carved oak double or partner’s desk, estimated at $10,000-$15,000; and an Upper Missouri Native American Plains Indian ball-head war club, probably Sioux, in outstanding original condition. This last carries an estimate of $5,000-$8,000.

Other standouts include a George Washington manuscript letter from Valley Forge, dated March 25, 1778; a William Aiken Walker (American, 1839-1921) New Orleans portrait; a Philadelphia Chippendale walnut bachelor’s chest from the Hennage collection; and a large 19th-century American full-body molded-copper rooster weathervane retaining its original surface, which carries an estimate of $5,000-$8,000.
