WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. – Leighton Galleries’ auction on Thursday, July 30, will highlight a fresh-to-the-market collection of three framed Ansel Adams photographs. LiveAuctioneers.com will provide absentee and Internet live bidding for the 354-lot sale, which will begin at 5 p.m. Eastern.
Leading off the auction as lots 1 through 3, the Adams photos were consigned by a local couple who had inherited them from the estate of a relative, who herself inherited them decades before. Not particularly liking the images, the couple stored the photos by the famous American photographer, which after decades are now finally seeing the light of day. Titled Moonrise, Hernandez, New Mexico, Clearing Winter Storm, Yosemite Valley, and Aspens, Northern New Mexico, 1958, each photo is pencil signed “Ansel Adams” in the lower right corner, has his Carmel studio stamp on verso with the ink title, and each image measures approximately 15 1/4in x19 1/4in with a sheet size of 22in x28in.
The auction will also offer a fine selection of inventory including fine and decorative arts, silver and vertu, jewels and timepieces and an estate collection of Russian works including silver, bronzes, paintings and icons.
A nice selection of fine art oils will be offered including one by Jozef Israels (Dutch, 1824-1911), titled The Coming Storm.
The auction will be held at the Knights of Columbus Banquet Hall at 79 Pascack Road, Washington Township (Bergen County), New Jersey. For information call Leighton Galleries 201-327-8800 or email info@Leightongalleries.com.
