LONDON – AntikBar’s next original vintage poster auction of over 350 lots features a selection of aviation and airline posters in addition to a variety of travel, sport, advertising, war, propaganda and movie posters from around the world. The online auction will start at 3 p.m. (UK time/10 a.m. Eastern) on Saturday, April 14. Absentee and Internet live bidding is available through LiveAuctioneers.

Two dramatic KLM Royal Dutch Airlines posters are featured early in the auction. The older of the two (1933) is titled The Flying Dutchman and depicts a prop-driven KLM Fokker flying over the legendary ghost ship (above). Designed by Jan Wijga (1902-1978), this classic poster is in excellent condition and estimated to arrive at £2,500-£4,500.

The second KLM poster has a similar image but with a more modern passenger plane (below). It was designed by Arjen Galema (1886-1974). This 1930s poster is in very good condition having a small restored spot mark on the bottom right corner (est. £1,500-£3,000).

Two Cunard Line Europe-American posters have the highest estimates in the auction at £6,000-£12,000 apiece. One features a stunning illustration by Samuel John Milton Brown (1873-1965) of a four-funnel Cunard Line cruise liner ship sailing across the ocean (below). It was printed in Great Britain by T. Forman & Sons, Nottingham, London and Liverpool. The second one features an equally beautiful illustration by Odin Rosenvinge (1880-1957) of a four-funnel Cunard ocean liner sailing into a harbor.

From “across the pond,” the auction features a railroad travel poster for the New York Central System and depicts a skyscraper view from Lower Manhattan to the Upper Bay. Twentieth-century American artist Leslie Ragan, who designed posters for the railroad, is credited with this scarce item dated 1935 (est. £5,000-£10,000).

Of special interest to collectors of mid-century modern are nine advertising posters for Danish Modern furniture makers. All nine black and white posters picture an attractive young female model.
