NEW YORK – One-hundred handwoven rugs from the Antique Knot Collection will be offered in an online auction hosted by Jasper52 on Friday, Feb. 21. All pieces are antique, ranging from the 19th century to the early 20th century. The Antique Knot’s passion for exemplary rugs and Kilims and tribal weaving has yielded a vast trove of tribal treasures. Bid absentee or live online through LiveAuctioneers.

The auction opens with a small Karagashli rug (above) woven in the mid- to late-19th century in northeast Caucasus. It features four electric medallions enclosing hexagonal floral design with extending birds float on a deep blue background. Interspersed are a variety of creatures, animals, geometric elements and symbols. Beautiful use of light and dark colors throughout this rug display harmonious coloration that can bring a style pop to any space (est. $3,000-$3,500).

Lot 2 is a Turkmen Ersari 6-foot-long rug (below) woven in the late 19th century in Turkmenistan or northwest Afghanistan This piece features three stacked octagonal medallions that consist of four quadrants enclosing pinecone-like designs and a center window. All are surrounded by three interesting border designs with neutral and warm coloration throughout. It is in excellent condition considering age with full thick wool pile (est. $2,500-$3,000).

Six Kilim rugs are offered in the auction including a large and gorgeous Caucasian Shirvan Kilim woven in the mid- to late-19th century that features a colorful palette and fine weave. The kilim displays hexagonal rows of latch-hook diamonds that are separated by cross tipped triangles. Interspersed are seven horizontal bands containing stepped diamonds. This rug is in excellent condition and should sell for $7,000-$8,000.

A Persian Afshar rug that measures about 4½ feet by 6 feet exhibits a classic vase design. Two opposing flower filled vases at top and bottom sit on an indigo field. This rug shows even wear and retains its original woven kilim skirts (est. $4,500-$5,500).

A tribal prayer rug that was woven in Reyhanli, Anatolia (Turkey) in the second half of the 19th century is a rare find. It boasts an exceptionally tight and fine weave and would make a beautiful wall hanging (est. $4,000-$5,000).

All rugs in the collection are tribal or classical from the following regions: Persian, Caucasian, Central Asian, Baluch, Anatolian (Turkish) and Chinese. Each carefully selected piece in the collection has been properly evaluated, conserved and hand-washed using a museum-quality proprietary cleaning technique. The rugs are ready for use on a floor or a wall as textile art.
