Art Deco, pietra dura highlighted at Carstens auction Aug. 13

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Carstens Galleries will present a varied selection of contemporary paintings, impressive jadeite sculptures, Art Deco pieces and excellent panels in the Florentine art of pietra dura in their Aug. 13 auction. Bid absentee or live online through LiveAuctioneers. Two fine examples of Art Deco silver are featured, one from Vienna, the other from France. The former is a rare centerpiece by Atelier Hoffmann, which measures about 6¼ inches in diameter. The latter is a vase by Jean Despres that measures about 3¾ inches high.

Also in the Art Deco style and from France is a 5½-inch-high Daum Nancy vase with applied decorations.

Having the highest estimate in the auction at $20,000-$60,000 is a pair of 32-inch-high jadeite sculptures, each depicting a scene of fruit trees and birds.

More than a dozen examples of Florentine pietra dura panels will be sold, led by a scene of a happy old couple seated at a table.
