CHICAGO – Wright will present Art + Design at auction on Tuesday, Oct. 12. Exploring two fields that are in constant dialog in everyday life, this curated sale includes interesting designs alongside original works of art, prints and photography. Absentee and Internet live bidding is available through LiveAuctioneers.
Artwork ranges from a Paul Jenkins acrylic on canvas painting (above) to Jeff Koons’ Balloon Dog (Red). The Koons Balloon Dog is number 569 from the edition of 2,300 published by the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles.
Design classics in the auction include a glazed stoneware teapot by Paul Schreckengost, younger brother of industrial designer Viktor Schreckengost. Paul Schreckengost was known for his streamlined designs of the 1930s.
A pair of wicker chairs designed by Mark Newson produced by Idee in 1988 is a stylish offering.
Also enticing is the Bocca sofa by Studio 65. The 84-inch-wide sofa is stamped with the Italian manufacturer’s mark on the back: “Gufram Multipli 86 Bocca.”
Nick Brandt (born 1964) is an English photographer who photographs exclusively in Africa. One of his goals is to record a last testament to the wild animals and places there before they are destroyed by mankind. A pigment ink print, 29 inches high by 21 ½ inches wide, titled Elephant Drinking from 2007. This signed and dated work, number 6 in an edition of 25, has the auction’s highest estimate at $40,000-$60,000.
