BIG FLATS, N.Y. – Three striking Arts & Crafts window panels, recently removed from a former Methodist church in upstate New York, come to the Winfield Auction Gallery on Sunday, August 26. The triptych depicting sheep in a meadow was made by the Haskins Art Glass Studio circa 1919.

Based in Rochester, New York, the firm owned and operated by George Haskins worked predominately in the opalescent glass made popular by Louis Comfort Tiffany. It became Haskins Art Glass in 1904 although had started its history in 1890 as W. M. Page & Co., became Parkes, Collyer & Stacy in 1893 and was Haskins & Collyer in 1895.

Many of the firm’s windows are still in situ in both ecclesiastic and secular buildings in New York state.

This trio was recently removed from the 1st United Methodist Church in Endicott in Broome County, which closed its doors in February. Haskins produced all of the windows for the 1919 building, paid for by the local shoe company Endicott Johnson.

A larger window depicting founder George F. Johnson with a group of children at play has also been removed but was donated to the Endicott History and Heritage Center.

The three windows, which have a “sheep in a meadow” theme, each measure 5ft high by 3ft wide and are being offered separately, as lot 1150, lot 1150A and lot 1150B, with estimates of $1,500-$2,000 each. Bidding is available via LiveAuctioneers.
