MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. – Charleston Estate Auctions’ Feb. 28 sale contains a large group of 18th and 19th century fine Chinese antiques, fine and vintage jewelry, American and European fine art, art glass, American and English sterling silver, fine porcelain, antique American and other furniture, and sports trading cards. Included is a large group of Canton ware and other porcelain from the estate of Dr. Fraser Wilson of Charleston S.C. Bid absentee or live online through LiveAuctioneers.
Two 11½ -inch tall Chinese hand-carved jade jadeite temple lions/foo dogs (above) are presented on a custom-made hardwood stand that measures 12½ inches long. Made from a single stone by a master carver, the beasts date to the early 1900s.
A finely painted and enameled Satsuma vase depicting the Japanese Immortals stands 22½ inches high and dates to the Meiji period (1868-1913). It bears the mark of Dai Nihon Satsuma Gyokusen zo and has a $1,000-$2,000 estimate.
Cartier’s classic Panthere design is present with a set of 18K gold cufflinks having emerald eyes and an onyx nose. Designed by Jeanne Toussaint, the cufflinks have been refurbished by Cartier. They come with a Cartier pouch, a certificate of authenticity, the original receipt and a box of jewelry cleaner from Cartier.
The selection of fine jewelry in the auction includes a 14K gold emerald and diamond halo design ring. The ring features a step-cut emerald set in the center surrounded by a halo of 22 pavé set, round brilliant cut diamonds and accented with an additional forty-four pavé set, round brilliant cut diamonds.
Paintings are highlighted by a Continental oil on canvas depicting a family enjoying an outing on a dory. The painting has an old reline and has been revarnished. Housed in an incredible carved giltwood carved frame, the painting was purchased at the Swain Galleries. For four generations the Swain family has presided over New Jersey’s oldest privately owned art establishment. The painting measures 36 x 45 x 4in in the frame.
The auction will conclude with more than 40 lots of pro sports trading cards.
