NEW YORK – On April 10, Auctions at Showplace will present 280 lots from New York City Metropolitan area estates in a sale lineup that blends Asian antiques with modern design. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.

Highlights include a Chinese yellow cloisonne lidded box decorated with images of foo dogs, fish and chrysanthemums, estimated at $4,000-$6,000. The box also features a band of ruyi clouds encircling a jadeite insert featuring the peaches of immortality and a bat.

Also featured is a large Chinese Han dynasty (206 BCE-220) ceramic pottery painted horse statue with a detachable tail and traces of polychrome paint. It is offered with a March 2006 thermoluminescence analysis report by Oxford Authentication, Ltd., dating the item’s creation to between 1,500 and 2,400 years ago. The horse statue is estimated at $3,000-$5,000.

Another compelling Asian lot in the April 10 auction is a Chinese Qing dynasty Imperial embroidered peach-ground longpao robe, decorated with five-clawed dragons clutching flaming pearls, bats, double peach sprays, wan symbols, butterflies and ruyi clouds. The bottom of the garment features a lishui stripe of diagonal rainbow stripes with rolling waves crashing against peaked rocks with precious items tossed upon the waves. The piece is made of embroidered silk with gold and multicolor thread. It carries an estimate of $3,000-$5,000.

Fine art highlights include an oil on canvas by Federico Alessandro Ciappa (Italian, 1766-1826) after Titian’s famous painting of the nude Princess Danae reclining in her bed, draped in sheets, being seduced by the god Zeus, who appears as a cloud of gold.

An equally compelling selection from the fine art lineup is an artist’s proof of Pablo Picasso’s 1961 lithograph La Ronde de la Jeunesse. Signed in pencil and in plate, the Picasso lithograph is estimated at $2,000-$4,000. Also of note is a vibrant Grecian landscape by Guy Bardone (French, 1927-2015) with provenance from David B. Finlay Galleries, as well as works by Henry Cole, Paul Karl Molnar, Esther Furhman, Salvador Dali, Andre Dunoyer de Segonzac and Charles Henry.
