NAPLES, Fla. – An early 19th-century portrait attributed to Gilbert Stuart heads Auctions Neapolitan’s sale July 25. Stuart, one of America’s foremost portraitists, is famous for his unfinished portrait of George Washington. LiveAuctioneers.com will provide Internet live bidding.

A nameplate on the original frame identifies the subject as Cyrus Blake and is dated 1800. The canvas measures 30 inches high by 25 inches wide. Stuart, born in Rhode Island, painted approximately 1,000 portraits of American political and social figures during his career, including six U.S. presidents. The painting has a $8,000-$12,000 estimate.

An oil painting by Bernard Pothast (English, 1882-1966) depicts a mother and two young children in a sunlit room. The consignor purchased the painting from the Darvish Collection Inc. in Naples in 1988 for approximately $37,000. The auction estimate is $16,000-$18,000.

French artist Emile Levy (1826-1890) painted a barefoot young woman dressed in white at the door of a building on a canvas measuring 12 inches wide by 19 1/2 inches high. In its original frame the painting has a $9,000-$14,000 estimate.

Also French, Paul Louis Narcisse Grolleron (1848-1901) painted a 19th-century French soldier charging into battle. The canvas measures 10 1/2 by 14 inches. The estimate is $5,000-$7,000.

A Baccarat crystal chandelier, 40 inches high and 28 inches wide, with eight arms carries a $7,000-$9,000 estimate.

Dated 1884 and autographed by its many makers, an American patchwork crazy quilt is expected to cover the $1,200-$1,400 estimate.

Of the 437 lots, about 100 will consist of Lladro porcelain figures. A couple of ballet dancers titled Beautiful Moment has a $1,200-$1,400 estimate. With its stand the figures are 18 inches high. Included are the original box, certificate and papers.
