COLOGNE, Germany – Auction Team Breker will open the collector’s cabinet once more on March 25 for its next Science & Technology, Mechanical Music, and Photography & Film sale. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.

From a fine selection of scientific and technical instruments comes a pair of three-inch celestial and terrestrial pocket globes by Nicholas Lane, estimated at $21,400-$26,800; and a set of table globes and a planetarium by Charles Dien, estimated at $7,500-$9,600.

Milestones in telecommunication history include an early Siemens & Halske butterstamp telephone receiver with whistler-call, estimated at $3,200-$5,400; and an 1855 American patent model of a telegraph by Lewis and Leroy S. White, which has an estimate of $3,200-$5,400.

Highlighting technological icons of the 20th century is a three-rotor Enigma 1 cyphering machine with special advanced switching by Chiffriermaschinenfabrik Heimsoeth & Rinke of Berlin, which carries an estimate of $74,900-$128,400.

The auction also boasts two early television sets: a coveted example of John Logie Baird’s Televisor, which brought BBC broadcasts to the home in 1929, estimated at $8,600-$12,800; and an HMV Type 900 mirror console television from 1937 with an estimate of $3,200-$5,400.

Mechanical music instruments large and small range from an Imhof & Mukle Model 6 Herold orchestrion that has an estimate of $22,600-$33,900, to a diminutive Roullet et Decamps Espagnole automaton in fine original presentation, estimated at $2,800-$4,300. Another standout that demands mention is a circa-1880 37-key trumpet barrel organ by Frati & Co. of Berlin, which boasts an estimate of $5,300-$9,500. Also featured are cylinder and disc musical boxes, pneumatic instruments and talking machines.
