NEW YORK – Auctions at Showplace will present its next New York City Estate Auction on Sunday, September 11, bringing together 280 lots of fine art, decorative arts, furnishings, fine jewelry and luxury goods. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.

Leading the highlights is an Art Deco platinum and diamond engagement ring featuring a European cut diamond weighing 1.76 carats and having I color and VVS2 clarity. It is centered and prong set, and its ring shoulders are adorned with four flush set baguette diamonds. The ring is estimated at $12,000-$18,000.

Fine art highlights include a Louis Gasne (French, 1858-1960) Belle Epoque period parcel gilt cast iron statue of a crowned allegorical peace figure in a classical drape mouille dress. The figure holds aloft an electrified torch of liberty and is mounted on wooden pedestal. Its estimate is $3,000-$5,000. Gasne operated a foundry from 1874 to 1896 and won the Medaille d’Or at the 1889 Exposition Universelle in Paris.

Also featured is a Nathan Isaevich Altman (Ukrainian and Russian, 1889-1970) canvas still life of a bouquet with chrysanthemums and lilies in a pitcher atop a table. The undated work is estimated at $1,500-$2,500. The sale also includes works by Daniele Donde, Carlo de Tommasi, Bernard Buffet and Erte.

Silver seekers will be thrilled by a massive circa-1960s Italian Baroque revival silver tray with a “531 MI” mark for an unknown Milanese maker active between 1955-1971. The tray has a shaped oblong form with lobed corners with scrolling acanthus and shell decoration, and the handles are decorated with scrolling acanthus, grotesque masques and dolphins. It weighs 139.85 troy ounces and is estimated at $3,000-$5,000. Also featured is a Towle Mary Chilton pattern sterling silver service for six and a Birks sterling silver service for eight in the Louis XV pattern.

Fine furnishings on offer include a stunning pair of Directoire brass-mounted mahogany three-drawer commodes with shaped gris de Sainte-Anne marble tops, each above three paneled drawers flanked by reeded colonnettes on toupie feet. Offered as individual lots, the commodes are both estimated at $1,500-$2,500.

Decorative arts highlights include a Lucie Rie (Austrian and British, 1902-1995)-attributed modern ceramic studio art pottery bowl glazed in a rich blue-green color, as well as a Jennifer Lee (Scottish, b. 1956-) studio pottery ceramic bowl estimated at $8,000-$12,000.
