NEW YORK – Auctions at Showplace kicks off 2022 with an exciting lineup of 280 lots from New York City Metropolitan area estates on January 9. The sale includes a collection of fine French and Continental art and antiques along with paintings, silver, fine watches and jewelry. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.

Highlights begin with a stunning set of four late 18th-century French Neoclassical School oil on board paintings depicting the four seasons as allegories of young women in front of thematic landscape backgrounds, in the taste of Nicholas Poussin. Also of note is an impressionist landscape on board by Czech painter Antonin Chittussi, estimated at $8,000-$12,000. Highlights also include a vintage Patek Philippe 18K yellow gold square face dual dial men’s wrist watch with an 18K Patek Philippe black crocodile leather strap bracelet. It carries an estimate of $6,000-$9,000.

Decorative Arts open with a French Second Empire Revival gilt bronze and cut glass tazza in the manner of Baccarat. The piece is finely cast with a lambrequin motif frieze supported by three birds and a seated female sphinx-head monopodia terminating on paw feet. It is estimated at $3,000-$5,000. Other standouts include a pair of French Baroque revival pair of garniture de table ormolu dessert stands, each with putti at the base and two cut crystal glass plates, and also a circa-1500 Flemish Renaissance wood group of the Deposition of Christ.

Jewelry and luxury goods in the January 9 lineup will feature an Edwardian 14K yellow gold and blue sapphire ornate cigarette case, set with one 4mm round cabochon-cut sapphire and a Tiffany & Co. art deco sterling silver and ruby hinged square monogrammed compact box. Equally worthy of mention is a collection of Montblanc Meisterstuck limited edition fountain pens including examples of the Voltaire, Edgar A. Poe, Charles Dickens, Agatha Christie, Dostoevsky, Marcel Proust, Franz Kafka and Alexandre Dumas. Rounding out the jewelry and luxury goods highlights is a collection of vintage belts and gloves by Chanel and Hermes, distinguished by a Chanel gold-tone link belt with logo buckle, estimated at $800-$1,200.
