NEW YORK – Auctions at Showplace will present a summer estate auction on Sunday, August 7, which will bring together 280 lots of fine art, decorative arts, furnishings, fine jewelry and luxury goods. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.

Highlights include an etching with collage on handmade paper by Spanish artist Manolo Valdes (b. 1942-). Titled Serie Helene, the piece, from the Helena series depicting images of ladies that reference Velasquez’s Las Meninas, is number 25 of 50 and is estimated at $3,000-$5,000.

Also of note is a unique color photograph by Irving Penn from 1947, titled New York Still Life and estimated at $800-$1,200. It captures a composition of fruit, grains and vessels, and it comes from the estate of advertising executive Bernard “Bill” Eckstein.

Sculpture highlights include an exciting collection of figural bronze works led by Heinrich Karl Scholz, including a sculpture of a standing nude woman estimated at $800-$1,200. Other featured sculptures are by Ernst Hermann Graemer, Niels Tvede, Gustave Van Vaerenbergh, Elza Koveshazi Kalmar and Etienne Pirot, who is represented by an unorthodox sculpture of a couple, estimated at $1,000-$2,000.

Fine furnishings on offer include a curated collection of Mid-century Modern pieces, featuring a 1950s Paul McCobb for Calvin Irwin Collection Mid-century Modern painted mahogany sideboard dresser commode with double tri-fold doors and a travertine top. It is estimated at $1,500-$3,000.

Next is a stunning Charles X flame-mahogany veneered cabinet with a white marble top and one long drawer above two bookmatch-veneered cabinet doors, on a molded conforming plinth with bun feet. The piece has provenance from Les Deux Iles Antiques and the New York collection of Ken and Jill Iscol, and it carries an estimate of $2,000-$3,000.

Asian art and objects on offer include a pair of Chinese terracotta horses dating to the Tang dynasty, estimated at $1,500-$2,500.
