PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Fontaine’s Auction Gallery will present its first auction of the new year on Saturday, January 29, at 11 am. Featured in this important 19th/20th Century fine and decorative arts auction are 19th and 20th Century lighting, art glass, leaded glass windows, silver, marble and bronze statuary, American and European furniture. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.

More than a dozen examples of Tiffany Studios lighting are on offer, led by an early 20th century Byzantine floor lamp that carries an estimate of $150,000-$250,000. The leaded glass lamp’s domed shade features more than 2,000 small copper-foiled glass tiles arranged in an elaborate design made up of four vertical wide bands that form a cross when viewed from above. The circular and diamond-shaped motifs are consistent with Tiffany’s Byzantine desk set pieces.

The parade of Tiffany lighting continues with an early 20th century Tiffany Studios Clematis chandelier, estimated at $80,000-$120,000; a circa-1905 Nasturtium table lamp with an identical estimate; and a 20th-century Tiffany Studios Nautilus desk lamp in patinated bronze with a Mermaid base cast from a model by Louis Gudebrod, estimated at $10,000-$15,000.

Fine art offerings that will make buyers sit up and take notice include an 18th-century oil on canvas, The Immaculate Conception of Los Venerables, after Bartolome Esteban Murillo. It is estimated at $8,000-$12,000. A strong representative of the sculpture choices is a patinated bronze by Italian mannerist Giambologna depicting Amphitrite, goddess of the sea. Its estimate is $15,000-$25,000.

Leading the furniture category is a late 19th-century Hertz Brothers figural carved oak banquet table, estimated at $12,000-$15,000. The table, having six leaves, is decorated with four winged maidens and signed with firm’s label.
