NANTUCKET Mass. – Nantucket real estate is booming. On an island that’s among the most expensive zip codes in the U.S., locals would call it a feeding frenzy. When a summer family trades up for a more spacious compound or historic Nantucket summer retreat, the art, trophy vehicles and custom-designed furnishings are largely left behind. Rafael Osona gets the call. With fresh material culled from fine estates and recently sold summer homes Osona’s Oct. 10 online auction reflects coastal family lifestyle and will be, in a word, loaded. Bid absentee or live online through LiveAuctioneers.
For 40 years, Osona’s maritime finds are known to be solid. Discriminating collectors attest to the depth and value consistent with the auction house’s annual August Marine Auctions. America’s Cup Trials, 1871, Yacht Dauntless by Antonio Jacobsen is an example (above).
Passing Squall by world-renowned marine artist, Michael Keane offers potent maritime atmospherics.
Expect solid works among various 19th 20th and 21st century paintings by Nantucket and other maritime artists. A jewel of a painting, and it’s all in the perspective is Ralph Eugene Cahoon’s Sailor’s Surprise. Paintings by Illya Kagan (Contemporary, Nantucket and New York City) are offered in 7 lots, including 90th St. Gate, Central Park.
Rockport Harbor, an early 20th century work by American artist Glenn O. Coleman – among the artist’s later oeuvre – is a strong example of Ash Can realism influenced by Cubist abstraction.

From the estate of Mario Buatta is offered a circa 1820 Regency girondale mirror.
A dozen lots of 19th century Regency collectibles include tea caddies and miniature card cases, sewing, traveling, snuff and other boxes.
Also available is a colossal spread-wing eagle plaque by William Rowe, who is regarded among the world’s finest nautical woodcarvers. There are various 19th century sailor or whaler-made crafts that complement six lots offering sailor’s valentines.
Two dozen lots of South Sea, Tahitian, keshi and freshwater pearls include a fine 11.1mm x 13.6mm Grey Tahitian South Sea and pink fresh water pearl necklace with a14K white gold and diamond clasp.
A leading source for Nantucket baskets, Osona will offer a fine antique William Appleton harvest basket with heart-carved handles. It leads eight lots, including a Nantucket lightship and friendship baskets by highly esteemed José Formoso Reyes, among other 19th and early 20th century items.
