CHICAGO – On December 7, Hindman Auctions will present an Important Jewelry auction with stunning examples of rubies, sapphires, emeralds and colored diamonds. Festive jewelry that will be offered includes an impressive collection of pieces from Van Cleef & Arpels as well as jewelry by notable makers Cartier, Suzanne Belperron, Graff, Oscar Heyman, Seaman Schepps and Tiffany & Co. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.

The standout lot is an antique Burmese ruby and diamond bracelet from the Perry-Belmont Family in Brooklyn, New York, estimated at $130,000-$330,000. The bracelet was owned by Caroline Slidell Perry Belmont, daughter of Commodore Matthew C. Perry and wife of August Belmont I. This exceptionally crafted bracelet has an intriguing history and has been in the possession of the family for multiple generations. Additionally, the details are striking – the bracelet contains two pear shaped unheated Burmese rubies and numerous old mine cut diamonds, hinged with a side clasp.

Another special ruby lot that is expected to receive intense bidding interest is an unheated Burmese ruby and diamond ring that carries an estimate of $120,000-$220,000. The ring contains one cushion-cut ruby weighing approximately 4.00 carats and two brilliant-cut diamonds weighing approximately 1.80 carats total. In Hindman’s May Important Jewelry auction, a Burmese ruby and diamond ring achieved $287,500, and the auction house expects to see similar excitement for this offering.
