Capo Auction celebrates 6th anniversary with bountiful fall sale Oct. 22

NEW YORK – A selection of fine art, modern furniture and unusual decorative items will be the focus of Capo Auction Fine Art and Antiques’ inaugural six-year anniversary auction on Saturday, Oct. 22. Capo has been specializing in select pieces of mid-century modern furniture and fine jewelry in recent years, while keeping with its original mission of creating a New York City auction house that is accessible to people in all income brackets, offering affordable quality home furnishings and decorative items as well as pricier fine art and antiques.

Absentee and Internet live bidding is available through LiveAuctioneers.com. The auction will begin Saturday at 11 a.m. Eastern.

This auction will offer a vast selection of contemporary and antique furniture, fine art, jewelry, silver, bronze and decorative items.

In the fine art arena this month, Capo is offering a Peter Layne Arguimbau (American, b. 1951) oil on board painting titled Regatta (above), 30 by 40 inches, which is estimated at $3,000-$5,000. An abstract work by Nicole Charbonnet (American, b. 1966) Untitled (Bark), mixed media on canvas, 2008, 66 x 66 inches, is also estimated at $3,000-$5,000.

The furniture is highlighted by a Ralph Lauren camelback sofa, 8 feet 9 inches long, in red damask upholstery; a Marco Zanuso-style leather lounge chair in black and white leather upholstery; a white lacquer Hunt table having a demilune top over a single drawer, on four elephant head-form supports; and a a pair of Theodore Alexander two-drawer bow-front night stands.

Already generating much attention is a Tiffany & Co. grandfather clock (below) in a mahogany case with a signed brass dial with silvered chapter ring with Arabic numeral chapters and etched decoration. The 7-foot-10-inch clock is estimated at $2,000-$4,000.

Many impressive decorative items will also be highlighted in the auction, including a 19th century Empire-style gilt bronze and alabaster centerpiece (below), which has an estimated value of $800-$1,200.
