Capo Auction’s holiday sale Dec. 19 could be best of the year

NEW YORK – Capo Auction Fine Art and Antiques in Long Island City will present their final auction of 2015 just in time for the holidays on Saturday, Dec. 19. The spotlight for this holiday auction will be on fine and contemporary art, which catapulted their November auction to being the most successful sale of the year at the auction house, along with a wide selection of decorative items of all kinds. Capo Auction will also offer impressive modern and antique furniture, Asian pieces and jewelry.

Items in all categories will be available at Capo Auction’s holiday auction on Saturday beginning at 11 a.m. Eastern. LiveAuctioneers.com will provide absentee and Internet live bidding.

Already generating interest are a Romeo Tabuena (Filipino, b. 1921) work titled Lavanderas (above), acrylic on board, 1966, which is estimated at $6,000-$8,000, and an attributed Jean-Marc Nattier (French, 1685-1766) oil on canvas titled Henriette of France as Flora. The 38-by-50-inch work (below) is signed “Nattier Pinist 1748” and is estimated at $5,000-$7,000.

Contemporary works this month include a Lee Friedlander (American, b. 1954) silver gelatin print, New Orleans, 1969, printed in 1978. Signed in pencil, the 7.5-by-11.25-inch image (below) is estimated at $5,000-$7,000. A Hedy Klineman (American, b. 1949) silkscreen and oil on canvas work, Untitled (Circular Buddha), is signed and dated 1992 on the canvas edge. Measuring 72 inches in diameter, the artwork carries a $2,000-$3,000 estimate.

Some unusual Asian decorative items include a Chinese green jade vase (below) having a domed cover, cylindrical neck flanked by dragon and ring handles, and a tapered body with carved floral decoration. The 6-inch vase has an estimated value of $800-$1,200. An 18th century Chinese circular bronze mirror, 3 7/8 inches in diameter and with raised decoration, is estimated at $300-$500.

Capo’s silver department is featuring a pair of American sterling silver peacocks used as table ornaments. The 9-inch-tall birds are estimated at $6,000-$8,000.

Other decorative items include an ancient clay aryballos from the Helenistic period, 330-63 B.C. The jug measures 5 inches high and is estimated $600-$800. A Biedemieier table clock in an Austrian ebonized case, 16 inches high, is expected to sell for $200-$300.

Furniture includes a set of 10 dining chairs, each having a tablet crest rail, upholstered seat and saber legs (est. $1,000-1,500) and a pair of stands, each with a circular white marble top, inlaid apron and three double legs joined by a triangular shelf (est. $300-$500).
