Capo Auction kicks off 2018 with variety of art, antiques Jan. 27

NEW YORK – In their first auction of the new year, Capo Auction Fine Art and Antiques in New York will spotlight a superb assortment of decorative items, fine and contemporary art and select furniture at their upcoming auction on Saturday, Jan. 27. Absentee and Internet bidding is available through LiveAuctioneers.
Highlighting the modern art category is a James Kennedy (Irish, b. 1962) oil painting on incised Masonite titled Family Grouping (above). Kennedy’s works are primarily semi-abstractions that explore spatial interactions and are composed in neutral tones. He creates the white framing structures used to house his works. This 30-by-24-inch work done in 2010 has a $4,000-$6,000 estimate.
Two lots sure to get attention are a J. Czapka & Sohn grand piano, circa 1880, that has a walnut case (est. $2,000-$3,000) and a rare 18th-century Chippendale mahogany side chair (below).
A Russian silver tea caddy, marked “84” and “St. Petersburg” and dated 1836, 3 1/8 inches high and weighing 218 grams, has a cover inset with a ruble coin dated 1830 (est. $1,000-$1,500).

Top decorative items featured are an exquisite French neoclassical style marble clock in an architectural-style yellow marble case that is 13 inches high (est. value $500-$700), a signed Galle vase with all-around decoration of elephants, 15 1/2 inches. (est. $ 500-$700) and a Tiffany vase in iridescent blue art glass, 17 inches. (est. $300-$500).

A collection of antique porcelain head dolls from an estate in Florida is also featured.
In furniture this month, Capo Auction is also offering a Louis XV-style gilt metal mounted two-drawer commode (below) and a contemporary desk of asymmetrical design with a chair (est. value $500-$700).
