Capo Auction’s fall lineup loaded with fine art, decorative items Sept. 24

NEW YORK – A selection of fine art, modern furniture and unusual decorative items will be the focus of Capo Auction Fine Art and Antiques’ first auction of the fall season on Saturday, Sept. 24. The auction will also include a wide selection of antique furniture, jewelry, silver and bronze.
Absentee and Internet live bidding is available through LiveAuctioneers.com. Live bidding will begin Saturday at 11 a.m. Eastern.
In the art arena this month, Capo is offering an untitled tapestry after Alexander Calder. The hand-woven tapestry of maguey fiber measures 57 by 83 inches. Dated 1975, it is from the edition of 100 by C.A.C. Publications and Bon Art, Guatemala, (estimate: $4,000-$5,000).
Two works by Sopranos actor and artist Federico Castelluccio (Italian, b. 1965) are offered. The first (below) is his re-creation of a drawing by Lorenzo Lippi in conte and watercolor on paper, 2012. Sight size is 13 1/4 by 10 1/4 inches. Matted and framed, its estimated value is $3,000-$5,000.

The other work by Castelluccio is The Betrayal of Christ after Caravaggio. The 2011 signed graphite on paper drawing, 8 by 8 inches, mounted and framed, has an estimated value of $1,500-$2,000.
Additional art includes Richard Newton Jr. (American, 1874-1951) oil on canvas titled Pride of Prides. The 28-by-36 painting is estimated at $2,000-$3,000. A Raphael Kirchner (Austrian/American, 1876-1917) pastel and gouache on paper titled Stirring the Pot, about 15 3/4 by 9 3/4 inches, is expected to make $1,500-$2,500.
Mid-century modern and contemporary furniture being offered will include a Mies Van Der Rohe day bed in brown leather upholstery (est. $800-$1,200) and four Regency-style upholstered armchairs with upholstered back and seat, open arms and slightly splayed legs (est. $800-$1,200).
Decorative items include a Tibetan bronze Buddha (below) seated in dyanosura on a triangular shaped plinth, 31 1/2 inches high (est. $1,000-$1,500), and a French brass carriage clock with a white enamel dial signed “LeRoy & Fils, Palais Royal, Paris and Regent St. London” (est. $700-$900).
