NEW YORK – Capo Auction Fine Art and Antiques in Long Island City continues celebrating spring by presenting their next auction of the season on Saturday, May 21. Fine art and unusual jewelry pieces are taking the spotlight this month, along with their exceptional selection of mid-century modern and other furniture, decorative items of all kinds and modern art.

Jewelry will include a Tiffany & Co. sapphire butterfly (above) in 18K yellow gold, pave set with round sapphires and diamonds and accented with emeralds. A fancy yellow diamond ring (below), 18K white gold ring, its center yellow diamond weighing .31 carats, has a $2,000-$2,500 estimate.

Items already getting attention in the fine art category include the Frederick Mulhaupt (American, 1871-1938) painting titled Fishing Docks (below), which is estimated at $8,000-$10,000, and a Henry Mosler (American/French, 1841-1920) oil painting Shrimp Boats Returning, 1883, which has a $2,000-$3,000 estimate.

Modern pieces include an art portfolio by Josef Albers (German, 1888-1976) titled Formulation: Articulation I + II. The two-part portfolio of screenprints on 65 double sheets of light cardboard is missing no. 19 of volume II. The portfolio is estimated at $5,000-$7,000.

In addition, Capo Auction will offer two classic first edition books: Ernest Hemingway’s The Sun Also Rises, published by Charles Scribner’s Sons, New York, in 1926, and F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby, 1925. Both books are without dust jackets and estimated at $800-$1,200.
