NEW YORK – Capsule Auctions, New York’s downtown art auction house, presents a selection of Post-War & Contemporary Art in our Abstracted sale Tuesday, Nov. 19. A mixed media on canvas work by Ida Kohlmeyer titled Symbols 82-B (above) is one of the leading lots. The 37½-by-24-inch work shows several forms of various shapes and textures arranged in a grid-like format on a flat red background. The use of bright colors and painterly style show influence from Abstract Expressionism. Symbols 82-B is expected to sell for $6,000-$9,000.
American Abstract Expressionists are represented by several bright and gestural paintings by Michael Loew, a number of paintings and works on paper by Jack Roth, and three paintings by Robert Natkin. An untitled acrylic on canvas work from Natkin’s Apollo series (below), 39¾ by 49¾ inches, is expected to sell for $5,000-$8,000.
Two works by Soviet Non-conformists Ernst Neizvestny and Vladimir Yankilevsky will be offered in the Abstracted sale. Neizvestny’s dynamic oil on canvas titled, Egg Born by Night (1984) is expected to sell for $8,000-$12,000. Yankilevsky’s Woman by the Sea #4 (1988) is expected to sell for $10,000-$15,000.
