Capsule Auctions readies two strong sessions for June 15

NEW YORK – On Wednesday, June 15, Capsule Auctions will present two sales: the first, On Form: The Male Nude in Art, will begin at 11 am Eastern time, and Deco + Design II is slated to start at 2 pm Eastern time. Both sales feature many selections from the collection of Seymour Stein. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.

On Form: The Male Nude in Art is a survey of male figuration from the slightly sensual to the erotic. Among the highlights is an original David Hockney drawing from 1966 titled Peter, Royal Pacific Motel, San Francisco, estimated at $20,000-$30,000.

Additional highlights from On Form: The Male Nude in Art include a drawing by German Expressionist Otto Mueller, estimated at $20,000-$30,000, and a large figure drawing by Leonard Tsuguharu Foujita, which carries an estimate of $8,000-$12,000. All three artworks are from the collection of Seymour Stein and were previously purchased at Christie’s.

Deco + Design II is a curated auction of glass, silver, furniture and a large collection of ceramics. Highlights include a folding screen featuring mounted paintings by French Cubist Andre Lhote, estimated at $20,000-$30,000, as well as a low table by Jean Dunand, estimated at $10,000-$20,000. Both are from the collection of Seymour Stein.

Also included in the sale is a monumental Art Deco leaded glass window removed from an estate in Deal, New Jersey. An attractive work of impressive scale, it is attributed to Frederick Ludwig Keppler of Keppler Glass Constructions, which was active in early 20th-century New York before being renamed Structural Glass Corporation in 1928. The monumental window is estimated at $10,000-$15,000.
