Carlyle Galleries presents Old Masters, Impressionist, Modern Art auction Dec. 22

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. – Carlyle Galleries International Inc., the online fine art dealers and auctioneers, is hosting their next auction, “Old Masters, Impressionist & Modern Art” on Thursday, Dec. 22 at 10 a.m. Pacific time. Absentee and Internet live bidding is available through LiveAuctioneers.

Carlyle’s latest online auction features nearly 200 lots of fresh-to-the-market paintings, sculpture and works on paper. As always, Carlyle’s auction features an eclectic mix of fine art, including: European, American, Russian, Asian, Latin and Middle Eastern, 19th century, modernist and Old Master paintings and drawings.

Auction highlights include:

Joseph Stella (1877-1946): The auction features two lots of important Joseph Stella sketches and drawings, which were exhibited at the Whitney Museum’s Joseph Stella show in 1994. Created in the early 1900s, these superb drawings are from a private collection and fresh to the market.

Frank Coburn (1862-1938): A rare painting depicting a rainy urban street scene by California artist Frank Coburn is offered at a $1,500 starting price.

American paintings by Leon Kroll, Hayley Lever, Moses Soyer, Eugene Savage, and Rolph Scarlett, are all up for bidding in Carlyle’s Dec. 22 auction.

Included in the European paintings is a highly desirable 1920s watercolor of a harbor scene at sunset by Jean Dufy (1888-1964) is offered with a reasonable $18,000-$25,000 estimate.

Other works by French impressionist / modern masters in Carlyle’s Dec. 22 auction include works, by: Jules Cavailles, Bernard Lorjou, Georges D’Espagnat, Maurice Bompard and Jean Helion.

Two paintings by Lithuanian-French artist Vytautas Kasiulis (1918-1995) depicting musicians are offered with starting prices of $2,000. The oil on canvas includes original 1960s purchase receipt from Kasiulis’ Paris gallery.

European mid-century modern highlights include an abstract painting by French-Belgian modernist Joseph Lacasse (1894-1975), and a rare 1950s aluminum wall sculpture by French-Romanian artist Etienne Hajdu (1907-1996).

As always Carlye is offering a wide selection of Old Master paintings and drawings including early Renaissance Italian, Flemish and Northern European paintings, including a large work on paper attributed to Tiepolo.

Starting prices on some lots are only $100, with most items in the $3,000-$5,000 range, making them highly accessible to collectors of all budgets.
