Carnival glass, clocks, lamps to light up Strawser auction Oct. 7-8

LAGRANGE, Ind. — Strawser Auctions will sell the Evelyn Johnson estate, a huge 70-year collection, on Thursday and Friday, Oct. 7-8. Many of the best items in the auction, including Carnival glass, clocks and lamps, will be available to Internet bidders via LiveAuctioneers beginning at 4 p.m. Central both days.
The auction will be held at the LaGrange County fairgrounds.
“She was from southern Missouri, in the foothills of the Ozarks. She collected it over a span of about 70 years,” said auctioneer Michael G. Strawser of Strawser Auctions, Wolcottville, Ind.
Pointing out highlights, Strawser mentioned a Northwood Carnival glass Poppy Show 9-inch plate in rare aqua color and a hand-decorated Rookwood vase in Standard glaze.
The auction will begin with more than 60 clocks, including banjo clocks, gingerbread kitchen clocks, mantel clocks, Regulators, calendar clocks, and ceramic case clocks.
Immediately following clocks will come approximately 120 lots of kerosene lamps. One in particular, a Bradley and Hubbard No. 8324 banquet lamp, lot 80, has drawn attention and multiple preauction bidding. It features a hand-painted floral globe shade.
Approximately 50 lots of art pottery will follow, including the Rookwood vase.
Also selling on the first day will be cookie jars and stoneware.
The second day of the sale will begin with more than 100 lots of Carnival glass, followed by art glass and approximately 150 lots of Depression glass.
