Carstens auction Oct. 17 features contemporary Italian artists

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Carstens Galleries is presenting a unique collection at their Oct. 17 auction: Contemporary Italian Artworks. Absentee and Internet bidding is available through LiveAuctioneers.

Included in this special auction of art is a small gathering of fine artists, such as Ercole Pignatelli, Antonella Cuccinelli, Ada Mazzei, Fernando Spano, Valentino Marra, Piero Paladini, Vito Spada, David D’Aprile, Antonio Calabrese, Gianna Stomeo and Marco De Mirto. Each of these masters has a personal style and expression of personality in their work, as well as an individual presence in many showings and expositions in Italy and internationally.

The second part of the auction is an encore of the Ibero-American Colonial and Baroque Art Collection of the Bello Estate, which goes back to that period of 17th- and 18th-century Latin America.

Leading off the auction is Ercole Pignatelli, an artist popular in Europe as well as the Americas. Born in Lecce, Italy in 1935, Pignatelli was fascinated by the collection of paintings of his grandfather. He left home at the age of 18, first for Rome before settling in Milan. Around the time Pignatelli won the San Fedele Prize in 1954, he met his first gallerist, Carlo Cardazzo, who exhibited his work in Milan and Venice. These first exhibitions were later followed by two Venice Biennale (1978 and 2011) and dozens of individual and collective exhibitions in Italy and around the world. His Selva Notturna, a large mixed media work on canvas (above), has a $25,000-$50,000 estimate.

Among the numerous venues in which Fernando Spano has participated since 1987 are the MIART of Milan, the Bari and Padova expos, the Canovaggio Gallery Rome, and the art fairs of Padova, Verona, Florence and Modena. His Volti della Memoria, or
Faces of Memory (below), is estimated at $6,000-$15,000.

Piero Paladini has an extensive list of personal expositions and projects, in Italy at the Bernardini Palace, the Camera Gallery, the Tornabuoni Gallery of Florence, the Russo Gallery, the Palmieri Foundation, the Hilton Hotel Acaya Resort, and the 2013 Armory Show in New York, among many others. Paladini’s artwork in Carstens’ auction is from his Medievalia Series of paintings 1999. This one is estimated at $8,000-$18,000.

Antonio Calabrese (b. 1947) has a long list of exhibitions, participating in collectives and individual venues; among the most recent are the Trevisi Academie and the II International Biennal of Lecce. His Fiabe N12, Fables, is expected to sell for $7,500-$13,000.
