Cartier among top names in online auction Oct. 13

NEW YORK – Exquisite jewelry and high-quality decorative arts are offered in an online auction to be conducted by Jasper52 on Sunday, Oct. 13. Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels rings, brooches and bracelets; Patek Philippe and Cartier watches; Hermes handbags, English sterling silver and superb European porcelain fill out the 322-lot catalog. Toward the top of the high estimate list is an 18K yellow gold René Boivin “Bouquet de Violettes” brooch set with rubies, amethysts and sapphires and framed by three leaves of pavé-set tsavorite garnets. The colorful brooch measures about 1¾ inches wide by 2½ inches high. It is expected to sell for more than $50,000.

Diamonds, sapphires, emeralds and rubies adorn the wide band of a Cartier 18K yellow gold ring, which is expected to sell for $8,000-$10,000.

Made in London in 1964 by N. Leslie is a pair of highly detailed sterling silver grouse (est. $2,500-$3,000).

A sterling silver cigarette case in the auction features a beautiful enamel image of a big dog – ready for the hunt. Adie Brothers Ltd. of Birmingham, England, made the cigarette case in 1928. The interior of the case is gilded and engraved with lines from Lord Byron’s poem Epitaph to a Dog. The lines read: “One who possessed beauty without vanity, strength without insolence, courage without ferocity, and all the virtues of man without his vices.”
