CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Estate Auctions will present their spring auction event – a live online auction to be held on April 23 at 1 p.m. Eastern Time. The auction offers notable and rare items from the personal collection of Marshall Fredericks, an esteemed American sculptor, the estate of a well-known Asian antique dealer, as well as many other notable Charleston estates. Absentee and Internet bidding for this 350-lot sale will be available through LiveAuctioneers.
The event is highlighted by antique and contemporary fine art, sterling silver, fine rarities from China and Japan, antique and contemporary design furniture, Persian carpets, fine jewelry, crystal, bronzes and porcelain.
An Andre Gisson (American 1921-2003) original oil on canvas Impressionist summer landscape is one of the top paintings in the auction. Professionally mounted in an ornate carved and pierced gilt wood frame, the painting (above) is expected to sell for $2,500-$3,500.
From an edition of only 100 is an exceptional color etching by Sigismond Kolos-Vari (1899-1983) titled Nets (below). The framed abstract work from 1952 is estimated at $800-$1,200.
A matched pair of original mid-century Russell Woodard “Sculptura” armchairs (below), in excellent original condition, is estimated at $800-$1,000. American sculptor Marshall M. Fredericks purchased in the chairs in the early 1960s, which were included in his estate.
A large unsigned Bruno Zach (Austrian, 1891-1945) bronze group titled Rock Movers is also from the Fredericks estate (est. $10,000-$15,000).
Sporting enthusiasts will have their sights set on a mid-19th century hunting over-and-under rifle/shotgun. The highly decorated long gun is estimated at $2,500-$3,500.
A Pati Bannister (American/New Orleans, 1929-2013) original oil on Masonite painting titled Prismatic Winter Landscape, professionally framed at her gallery, 16 by 21 inches, has a $1,200-$1,600 estimate.
Three etchings by Elizabeth O’Neill Verner (1883-1979), all in matching custom museum frames, are included in the auction. Live Oak, Middleton Place has a $900-$1,300 estimate.
