Charleston Estate Auctions to offer variety of choice items May 22

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Estate Auctions’ May 22 auction event presents an exceptional collection of fine European and American original art, rare Asian antiques and collectibles, estate jewelry, china and crystal, sterling silver, as well as, a wide variety of home décor. The auction goes live online Sunday, May 22 at 1 p.m. Eastern.

Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.com. The following are some highlight lots:

Lot 102: Johann Mongles Culverhouse’s (Dutch 1825-1895) oil on panel (below) depicts a mother with nursing baby, a son and daughter. The interior painting is beautifully detailed with natural light from the window illuminating the scene. In an ornate original period gilt wood and gesso frame, it measures 12 3/4 by15 inches overall. The artwork is estimated at: $5,500-$6,500.

Lot 103: A pair of large bronze Chinese Qing Dynasty guardian lions (below). This well-detailed pair came from the Belle Haven, Greenwich, Connecticut, family home of the owner of the iconic Pickwick Arms Hotel in Greenwich and conveyed with the house in the 1920s. Value: $4,500-$6,500.

Lot 136: Beautiful antique parcel gilt bronze and enamel cloisonne censor (below) with foo dog finial, foo dog tri-legs, ornate reticulated lid decorated with bats, foral, leaf and scroll enameled designs. The bottom has central enameled flowers with an enameled scroll designs. With a custom fit wood base the censor stands 10 inches high. Value: $1,800-$2,800.
