NEW YORK — Capsule Auctions presents Asian Art and Antiques, a curated sale of ceramics, woodblock prints, sculptures and paintings from the ancient to the contemporary and sourced from New York and New England estates and collections. The sale takes place Thursday, November 18 at 10 am Eastern time. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.

A notable highlight of this sale is a Chinese porcelain enamel decorated table screen dating from the late 19th to early 20th century. The frame and base are decorated in iron red with gilt patterns and a Qianlong six-character mark on the top edge of the base. One side of this beautifully painted screen shows eight horses in a valley surrounded by mountains, while the other side shows clustered pavilions by a river.

This sale also features an array of ceramics and Canton enamels from the collection of Seymour Stein and the estate of Consuelo Cotter. Specifically from the collection of Seymour Stein is a large Chinese Export Hong punch bowl from the Qianlong Period (1775-1785). Estimated at $10,000-$20,000, this finely potted porcelain punch bowl has a tapered foot and deep sides. It is decorated with a continuous scene of figures in the hongs at the Canton trading port by the Pearl River in China. The painted scene also includes factories flying Western national flags and trade junks packed with goods. The interior of the bowl is decorated with baskets, flowers and a gilt green and iron red band.

In addition, the auction includes a cast bronze head of a Daoist Immortal from the estate of Consuelo Cotter. Inspired by Chinese mythology and possibly dating back to the 17th century, this bronze head is distinguished by traces of gilding and has elongated earlobes and a serene expression.

Other highlights from this auction include an excellent selection of woodblock prints by Utawaga Hiroshige, Kitagawa Utamoro and Hisashi Otsuka. A standout is a woodblock print from the series Twenty Views of Tokyo by Hasui Kawase. Titled Moon at Megome and dated to 1930, this strongly colored print depicts a field at night with dark shades of blues and greens creating an ambiance of calm and mystery.
