The sale will feature a dazzling array of 19th- and 20th-century paintings and sculptures.
Also slated to cross the block will be works of historical and artistic significance by African-American artists such as Beauford Delaney, Al Loving, Jr. and Purvis Young. International art will include works from Thomas Rowlandson, Eugene Berman, Cristobal Toval, Brett Whiteley, Wynne Apperley and Gabriel Spat.
Tremendous bidder interest is anticipated for a rare, signed 1925 lithograph by Henri Matisse. Also featured are two fresh to the market single-owner collections of prints, featuring rare examples by Martin Lewis, John Sloan, Reginald Marsh and Yasuo Kunioshi.
Additional artists represented in the sale include Robert Motherwell, Helen Frankenthaler, Nancy Graves and Joan Miró. Also, an estate from Riverside, N.Y., is providing an unusual Mid-century collection of American sculptures, including pieces by Alexander Calder, Fritz Bultman and Theodore Roszak.
